I reluctantly bought a display model of the GR-DVL120U about a year ago. I choose this model because of price, shape/size and the fact it was digital. Price was the biggest concern because the soul purpose was for shooting underwater video (if my housing flooded, I would be out less money). The camera is still going strong despite use in some rough environments. The video quality is very good and if works great for connecting to a computer (something my girlfriends Sony doesn’t do well). The manual setting on the camera is great because I can lock the focus and everything for shooting underwater. That way it doesn’t search for focus in low light conditions. There’s lots of different settings you can tweak in the manual mode to work in your environment (I can get good footage 119 ft underwater!) The negative would be the camera isn’t very common so it isn’t always easy to find batteries or other accessories (like a good fisheye lens) Read more...

I’ve had this camcorder for quite some time now and so far so good. Tapes are easy to put in and take out, does use a lot of battery power, but you get two batteries so basically 2 hours worth or record. You can also place a memory card in for taking pictures…the pictures when developed do NOT turn out well at all. But if you just want the pictures to put online or send to family then they are good. So if you are expecting to hit two birds with one stone with this camcorder you won’t. It makes great videos but not great pictures. It has lots of extra features: fade in and out, black and white, date, time stamp…pretty much everything you could want. It doesn’t have nightshot though which is sad. But in nightshot everyone looks green and scary anyway, but it still would have been nice. All in all i like this, small size and packs some heat. I’d recommend this one. It’s the one i decided on after HOURS of research. Read more...
I have had this machine for 2 years and it has always been very dependable and produces excellent results for a 1 CCD recorder. The machine provides lots of flexibility and I regularly receive positive comments about the quality of the image. The camcorder is generally used for some light travel and recording lots of sporting events. The machine also allows conversion of analog to digital tapes. This means you can record from a VCR to this machine (digital). It is also easy to transfer files to a DVD recorder. I am sure there are better machines out there by now but this has been well worth it. The camera stills are a bit small to be useful at this time (1.2 mp-seems small now but was pretty good when this was first released) Read more...
